Out with E-10, in with Recreational Blend Gasoline | Print |  E-mail

Both Yamaha and Honda Marine have determined the effects of E-10 (10% Ethanol Blended Gasoline) can be harmful when used in outboard motors. Therefore, Atwood Lake Boats will be E-10 free beginning in the spring of 2009. Replacing E-10 is the new recreational blend available exclusively at Marinas West and East.

E-10 is a highly refined alcohol made from grain, typically corn. Recreational blend has no ethanol with an octane rated at 91. In addition to the benefits of a higher octane, the recreation blend will help alleviate concerns of heat, water contamination and aging "storage" of your fuel.

Ethanol is used in most areas because it is the most readily available renewable fuel that can be added to conventional gasoline without major changes. The negative effects of ethanol include a stronger attraction to water, a life span of 30 days or less, especially when subjected to excessive heat such as portable tanks exposed to direct sunlight, and ethanol’s solvent properties can lead to clogged filters, carburetor problems, fuel line problems, and more.

With the recreational blend, it is still highly recommended to use fuel stabilizer with each new tank of fuel. Atwood Lake Marinas will be adding stabilizer to our fuels. Please remember that fuel stabilizer does not repair old or bad fuel.

Other excellent uses for the recreational blend fuel are mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, snow blowers or any two- or four- stroke engine.

Also, available from Atwood Lake Boats and suggested for all fuel systems are 10 micron marine fuel/water separating filters.
