Atwood Lake Boats was originated by Gary K. Spahr in 1963 in Magnolia, Ohio as the “Sailboat Center”.  The Sailboat Center built and sold smaller “Class Sailboats” such as Lightnings, Thistles and Sunfish sailboats.

The business expanded and moved to the Dellroy area with the purchase of “Barneys Marina” located on the East end of Atwood Lake in 1969.  Renaming the business the “The Sail and Power Marina”, Spahr broadened sales to include pontoon boats, family runabouts, boat rental, docking, service and a small restaurant.

Atwood Lake Marina West located by the Atwood Lake Park was acquired by Spahr on August 1^st, 1975.  With the addition of the West Marina came more docking and boat lines including Catalina Cruising Sailboats and Houseboats.  This move helped Atwood Lake Marinas grow into one of the largest inland boating destinations in Ohio with over 700 docks.

In addition to the Atwood Lake operations starting in 1973 Spahr obtained Leases with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to operate State Marinas.  These locations included West Branch Marina, St. Mary’s Marina, Deer Creek Marina and the Salt Fork Marinas.  These marinas specialized in boat rental and marine accessories sales.

In October 2000 Spahr sold Atwood Lake Boats, Inc. to long-time employees with over 25 years experience, Brian and Chris Valot.  In 2006 they welcomed their oldest son, Michael, to the business as Service Manager.  The Atwood Lake Boats staff continues a 45 year tradition providing Ohio boaters a convenient, stress free, boating experience.  Headquartered at Atwood Lake Marina West the family business continues to serve boaters from Ohio and surrounding states.
